Tom Kempton

Working with land issues provides a blank canvas for problem-solving and consensus building, Tom has spent his career collecting experiences in the legal field in all areas that touch land. Comfortable in a board room, county courthouse records room, or walking property with landowners, Tom has spent quality time working in a wide array of positions from in-house legal and land departments for companies both large and small to bespoke and novel land and title projects requiring extensive work in the field- all of which translates to novel solutions, helpful perspective and practical counsel. His practice has focused on transactions, especially in the energy sector, title issue analysis, title curative and complex land issues.

Tom is a member of the Colorado bar and has worked extensively in Colorado, West Virginia and Texas. As a longtime member of the Foundation for Natural Resources, Tom enjoys the excellent programming and scholarship produced through The Foundation for Natural Resources in their Renewable Energy, Water Law, and Oil and Gas Sections.

A former Collegiate Track and Field athlete and Colorado native, when not working, you’ll find Tom either working on watercolor paintings or doing something active outside whether it is trail running, cycling or training for Biathlon season with his wife, Ellie, while chasing their two rambunctious Rhodesian Ridgebacks around.
