Protecting the Most Biologically Diverse River Systems in North America

The Mixed Broadleaf Forests of the Western Tennessee Plains to the Highland Rim is an aggregate approach to Improved Forest Management. The properties in this project are primarily owned by smaller landowners and families. NativState unites these owners with the goal of maintaining forest CO2e stocks through sustainable management.

Western Tennessee is bound by the Mississippi River to the west and the Tennessee River to the East. The Tennessee River basin is one of the most biologically diverse river systems in North America. Most of the region is flat with some steeper areas, especially along the rivers that border it. Agriculture plays a large part of the economy in this region. Tennessee ranks in the top ten states for cotton production, and most of this cotton is grown in Western Tennessee. Corn, hay, and soybeans are also grown in this region.

This project provides significant climate benefits and co-benefits through carbon sequestration from native forests.
