About NativState

Empowering the next generation of forest stewardship

Who We Are

NativState is a team of experienced scientists, engineers, foresters, and land managers that integrate critical forest conservation with market-driven solutions. Our work protects forests, creates economic opportunities for landowners, and supports global climate goals for customers.

As a forest carbon development company, NativState connects small private forest landowners, primarily in the southern “timber basket” of the United States, with global carbon markets. By focusing on landowner aggregation and sustainable practices, we generate high-additionality carbon credits through dynamic baselines within a region known for being the country’s most robust timber market.

Leveraging decades of expertise in forestry, land management, energy, and corporate sustainability, we provide strategies and solutions that align landowner interests with companies seeking high-quality nature-based carbon credits.

Our Commitment

NativState is distinguished by a strong commitment to accountability and project permanence. Key differentiators include:

Landowners First
We work directly with landowners to sequester carbon and improve forestland with a keen focus on the alignment of their vision and goals.

On the Ground Know How
We leverage deep expertise in sustainable forest management and modeling across our carbon projects in the southern U.S., delivering lasting ecological, economic, and co-benefits in the region we were founded, live and work.

Exceeding Standards
We surpass ACR requirements and collaborate with independent third-party verifiers, ensuring rigorous evaluation of our projects.

Risk Management
We act as both project developer and proponent. NativState assumes the risk of project permanence, protecting buyers’ reputations.

Data-Driven Approach
We focus on additionality and co-benefits grounded in research, enhancing project credibility.

Long-Term Commitment
We manage and monitor projects throughout their full term (40 years for IFM, 60 years for ARR), ensuring durability and legal binding agreements that last the entire length of the project.

Expertise
We contribute to project success with proficiency in carbon modeling and forest management, reassuring organizations that the carbon credits generated are both durable and permanent.

From Our Founder

Stuart Allen, Founder and President

An Arkansas native, Stuart founded NativState to foster environmental stewardship among small landowners, deliver scale to industry partners, and present new revenue opportunities in emerging carbon markets. Before NativState, Stuart’s passion for identifying, developing, and delivering market-driven solutions resulted in the development of several startup companies, which he led before successfully divesting. Before branching out on his own, Stuart started his professional career as an engineer for Southwestern Energy, a leader in both natural gas development and the first company in the energy space to become water-neutral throughout their operations. Stuart supports several conservation organizations, including Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He is a proud graduate from the University of Central Arkansas with a B.S. in biology and economics, as well as a B.S. in petroleum engineering from Colorado School of Mines. Stuart and his wife Katherine have four children and enjoy watching them experience the outdoors on their property in the Arkansas River Valley.

Upholding Our Founding Values

When NativState was founded in 2021, we set a goal for ourselves—for all the work we do to be rooted in a moral code. These values are framed in our office and upheld by our team every day.

“Do the right thing. Every Time.”
